Battery Passport

Watch video
The Battery Regulation applies to all entities that place batteries on the market. However, the requirements
vary depending on the type of battery.

What type of battery are you placing on the market?

LV battery
Industrial battery with a capacity of more than 2 kWh
Electric vehicle battery

You are required to have a battery passport.

Your battery passport is essentially your battery’s digital record and must be accessible via a QR code.

First, there are three access levels:

  • Publicly available (Annex XIII, No. 1) Information that anyone can view via the QR code/battery passport
  • For notified bodies, market surveillance authorities, and the Commission only (Annex XIII, Nos. 2 and 3): Detailed conformity and testing data accessible exclusively to authorities and conformity assessment bodies
  • Only for individuals with a legitimate interest (Annex XIII, Nos.
    2 and 4)

In addition, the amount of information that must be stored behind the QR code is increasing significantly. According to Annex XIII, this information is organized into several blocks and comprises a total of approximately 90 data points.

    Industrial batteries ≤ 2 kWh

You need a QR code that links to the following
product information (Article 13, paragraph 6, subsection b):

    • Relevant information (as provided in paragraphs 1 through 5)
    • Declaration of Conformity (pursuant to Article 18)
    • Report (pursuant to Article 52, paragraph 3)
    • Waste Prevention and Management of Used Batteries (pursuant to Article 74(1)(a) through (f))
